SCHOOL'S out and there's so much Easter fun for all the family on offer on the Isle of Wight, from egg hunts to duck races and sports to parties.

Take a look below at some of the Easter events and activities happening across the Island this weekend and next week.

Arreton Barns

Arreton Barns will be holding a hunt on Easter Sunday from 9.30am through to noon.

Little ones will be able to explore the Barns, searching for hidden coloured counters and in return, they’ll receive a chocolaty prize.

No booking is required, but the hunt is £5 per child.

Carisbrooke Castle

Explore to castle to hunt for clues and challenges and discover the history of traditional Easter games.

Track down the Easter eggs and you’ll be rewarded with an adventurer’s certificate and a chocolate treat from Love Cocoa.

The quest costs £2, payable upon arrival, in addition to the normal ticket price. Book online and save ten per cent.

Available today (Thursday) and again between Thursday, April 6 - Sunday, April 16.

There will also be four days of fun over the bank holiday weekend, with performers, Sword School, egg-and-spoon races, skipping and magic displays.

Isle of Wight Steam Railway

The Steam Railway in Havenstreet is hosting its own Great Railway Easter Hunt.

Through until April 13, you can search for the giant eggs hidden around the entire attraction and solve the clues to claim your chocolate.

Ticket to Ryde by Jack Up Events

Ryde Esplanade's Eastern Gardens will once again play host to Jack Up Events’ free-to-attend Ticket to Ryde as it returns for its ninth year across the bank holiday weekend.

Live music, provided by some of the Island’s best bands and artists, will kick off from lunchtime on Good Friday, with the event running until 8pm each evening. Trade stalls open from 10am each morning.

River Yar Duck Race

The River Yar ducks have come out of hibernation and are ready to race on Saturday.

The race will start at 3.30pm at Yarmouth Sailing Club, with food and refreshments available. 

Tickets will be on sale soon at £1 each, available from Yarmouth’s Harwoods, The Pharmacy and PO41.

Shide Duck Race

Meanwhile, in Shide, Aspire will be holding its Easter Duck Race on Saturday at 1.30pm, opposite National Tyres.

Around 1,000 plastic ducks will be led by Dickie Duck, as well as 100 special Easter ducks donated by the sponsor, Horsler Lifts.

Ducks are £1 each, available at Ryde Aspire, Jewson’s in Sandown, Wight Building Suppliers in Blackwater, or online via Aspire's fundraising page.

Shanklin Chine

This year’s Easter Egg Hunt is Shanklin Chine’s first event of the season, with no booking required.

Islanders are invited to join in across Good Friday to Easter Sunday and explore the Chine to find the golden egg. Also, keep your eyes peeled for dino eggs and the new Jurassic residents.

Everyone who takes part has the chance to win a family pass to The Chine for the 2023 season.

Tapnell Farm Park

Alice’s Easter Wonderland will offer activities at Tapnell from 11am – 3.15pm until April 14, all included in the Farm Park admission.

Featuring your favourite characters from the story, join Alice for a spot of potion making, take on the White Rabbit’s Bunny Hop Race, complete the scavenger hunt in the Mad Hatters Maze, take on the Queen of Hearts in her croquet tournament, and much more.

The Farm Park also has a giant Easter egg competition, running across the bank holiday weekend.

Hunt around the Park to find as many eggs as possible, record the number and if you’re right, you’ll be entered into the draw to win a big Easter egg.

Model Village Godshill

Across the bank holiday weekend, the Model Village is hosting a spot the eggs event.

Available between 10am – 4pm between Good Friday and Easter Monday, normal admission applies.

Fort Victoria Country Park

Head over to the Imaginarium to take part in Fort Victoria’s Easter trail through the county park, completing the puzzle as you go. A treat bag awaits those who successfully solve the puzzle.

There will also be crafting activities from £2 and free activity areas to keep the kids amused.

The trail runs until April 16, with pre-booking advised.

Wight Military and Heritage Museum

Wight Military and Heritage Museum in Northwood is holding special events across the Easter holidays.

The attraction is holding a free-to-enter Easter Quiz, with those who can answer all the questions correctly, receiving an Easter prize.

Exclusive to the holiday period, the museum will offer the chance to ride in the FV432 tanks.

There is also the opportunity to catch gun talk and handling sessions, take photos inside a tank or military vehicle and free colouring sheets, both Easter and military-themed, are available for all ages.

Naturezones, Blackwater

Naturezones at Blackwater is holding an Easter Scurry Egg Hunt between 10.30am – 3pm on select days this week.

The are 11 bunny rabbits at Naturezones, but one has gone missing, but which one is it? If you can find the missing bunny, a special Easter chocolate egg could be your reward.

You can also earn a wise owl badge by working out what the bunny’s names have in common and which is the odd one out.

Refreshments are available, including soup, scones, flapjack and gluten-free cake.

Available today, Thursday and Easter Sunday, booking is required online.

Osborne House

Explore the grounds to hunt for clues and challenges and discover traditional Easter games like egg rolling and the egg and spoon race.

West Wight Sports Centre

The Sports Centre has an exciting programme for the Easter Holidays, through until April 16.

A range of activities are available, including swimming lessons, climbing sessions, pre-sailing skills, kayaking, snorkelling, Mermaids, driving, raft racing, sports club, kids dance, skateboarding, fun hours and open swims.

There is also fun available for teenagers, with youth football, teens fun hours, teens gym and teens revolution activities.

Places are limited, and the Sports Centre expects sessions to fill up quickly, so booking is essential.

Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary

The Sanctuary will have some donkey activities available to take part in until April 14.

With a mixture of donkey walking and paper a donkey packages throughout the holidays.

There will also be an Easter egg hunt, with a tasty reward at the end, and Easter treats in Grazers Cafe.

Available from 10am – 4.30pm.

Easter Party by Newport Carnival

Hosted by Newport Carnival at The Riverside Centre, an Easter Party will be held on Good Friday between 6pm – 9.30pm.

The special event will feature a disco, party games, food and drink, giveaways, fancy dress, the Easter Bunny, face painting, Funky Pineapple Events, an Easter Bonnet Competition and Island-famous David Randini. 

Tickets are available from Godshill Village Store, Farnsworth Newsagents in Newport, The Riverside Centre on Newport Quay and Harwoods Garage in Wootton.

Adults can enter for £2.50, while children can enjoy for £1.50.

Riverside Centre Car Boot Sale

The Riverside Centre’s car boot sale will take place on Easter Sunday from 9am – around 11.30pm.

The price per pitch is £5, with bookings limited to a maximum of 45 sellers and set-up available from 7.30am.

The sale is free to enter, although donations are appreciated, with all money raised going to charity.

Chale Car Boot Sale

Meanwhile, Chale car boot sale returns from Easter Monday with its first car boot of the year.

Based in Chale Recreation Ground, opposite The White Mouse on Military Road, the car boot has toilets onsite, burger vans and ice cream.

The event is free to enter, but donations are greatly received, and sellers are charged £5 per car and £8 per van, with arrival from 7.30am to set up.

Christ Church, Sandown

The Sandown church, found on The Broadway, is welcoming families – mainly primary school children, but all ages are welcome – to a special Messy Easter service on Easter Saturday from 3.30pm – 5pm.

There will be Easter crafts, making of Easter Gardens, fun and songs.

Alice in Easterland by MAD-Aid

Enjoy a buffet featuring traditional Easter food from countries including England, Ukraine, Romania and Moldova at MAD-Aid’s Alice in Easterland event on April 16.

Held at Barton Manor in East Cowes from 2pm – 6pm, the event will be a multicultural celebration of springtime fun.

Featuring an Easter egg hunt and games and craft activities, visitors are encouraged to wear bunny ears or Easter-themed costumes!

There will be music by Sandown and Shanklin Military Band and the Elsinore Duo during the afternoon.

All the proceeds from the Alice in Easterland event will be used to fund MAD-Aid’s charity programmes, with tickets £20 for adults and £10 for children, purchased in advance from the event website.

National Trust – Isle of Wight

Hidden around the magical gardens at Mottistone are ten ‘signs of spring’ for little explorers to discover, with each one inspired by an egg-laying animal found near Mottistone, from birds to insects and even dinosaurs.

If you can, there is a special 'sign of spring' stamp to collect at each activity.

Each National Trust Easter trial ends with a chocolate egg, including vegan and free from.

The egg hunt costs £3 per trail, plus normal National Trust admission.

On the other side of the Island, at Bembridge Windmill, there’s a new ‘Mud Bakery’ to make mud pies and free spring activities for children this Easter.

Little ones can make a pinwheel, search the skies for birds, hunt for bugs or make a hotel for them to live in.

‘Spring at the mill’ runs from 4-16 April each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, 10.30am-5pm (last admission 4.30pm).
