AN ISLE of Wight drink driver crashed into a bridge and almost hit an oncoming car.

Jacqueline Milsome, of Alverstone Road, Newchurch, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday, March 22.

The 53-year-old admitted drink driving in her home village, on March 6.

Prosecutor, Liz Miller, said police received a call from a member of the public, reporting a car had collided with a bridge outside Sandown Airport at around 5.15pm.

She said the witness followed the vehicle and saw it almost collide with an oncoming car.

Ms Miller said a member of public removed the keys from the car, and its driver – Milsome – was described as being very unsteady on her feet.

A strong smell of alcohol was noted and she registered a breath-alcohol reading of 98 when the legal limit is 35.

Milsome saw her case adjourned to May 3 at the same venue, so a pre-sentence report could be drawn up.

She was granted unconditional bail until that date and made subject of an interim driving ban.
