The Isle of Wight County Press was commended at the prestigious 2024 Newspaper Awards in London last night (Tuesday).

The paper, in its 140th year, was shortlisted for the local weekly newspaper of the year award for the second year running.

Our very own Lori Little and Lucy Morgan, who took over in March 2023, attended the awards ceremony at London Hilton Bankside.

The Isle of Wight County Press is the voice of the Island for trusted news, has a deep understanding of its community and is officially the country’s biggest-selling local weekly.

Co-editor Lori Little said: “We were thrilled to have been on such an exclusive shortlist for the second year running.

“We have been recognised by industry experts as one of the best local weekly newspapers in the country, and that comes on top of recent audited figures proving we are the best-selling!

“This proves what we already know, that print readership is important, and we thank all those thousands of readers who buy the County Press each week.”

Co-editor Lucy Morgan added: “In the last year we’ve put a focus on improving our front pages with a series of exclusive and special reports, photos of community groups and talented individuals.

“Inside we offer Island news, heritage features, entertainment, weekend TV listings, opinion columns and readers’ letters and more – it’s a huge mix available every Friday.

“Not only that, we hit millions each month through our huge digital reach.

“We are proud of our team of local professionally qualified journalists who bring all this together round the clock – we never take a day off and are always there for the Island.”

The County Press's sister paper The Impartial Reporter was the worthy winner on the night.

Also up for the award were the Cambridge Independent, Ham and High, Lymington Times and New Milton Advertiser and Newbury Weekly News.
