The winning team included Sarah Beane, Ross Backshaw, Summer Wyatt, Ben Marsh-Brown, Macy Remnent, Finlay Abel, Caitlyn Marsh-Brown, Thomas Pitt, Ella Kingsmith, William Bennett and Becky Jude.

The competition marked a significant milestone for the Island athletes, who spent numerous hours training on Sandown's all-weather track, without having fixtures, due to the pandemic.

Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight were given credit for their commitment to inclusivity and resilience throughout Covid-19.

Deborah Percy said: "Covid has folded most of the southern Special Olympic and Sporting Opportunity organisations, but vital club, the Isle of Wight branch, was determined to stay strong — essential for the future of providing sporting possibilities for all who face challenges in their lives."

She revealed further plans to increase inclusivity.

"We are ‘all inclusive’, with no age limit or limitations. There is a possibility in the future to extend to frame running," Deborah continued.

Frame running, an effective recreational activity that improves fitness and well-being, is tailored for people with cerebral palsy.

Ryde School contributed significantly to this achievement by funding the team's travel.

"A massive thank you to Ryde School, who sponsored our travel. Without their support, this day would not have happened," she added.
