A FUNDRAISING page set up to support the family of cricketer Tommy Barton has far exceeded its target — hitting £10,000 — and showing just how popular a figure he was on the Isle of Wight.
Mr Barton, of Brading, died from suspected stab wounds on the way to St Mary's Hospital in Newport following an incident in Park Road, Ryde, during the early hours of Sunday.
A big figure in Island cricket, tributes to him, from across the Isle of Wight, have been expressed — reflected in the generosity shown by the huge amount of donations made to a JustGiving account, set up by Simon Bligh on Tuesday.

Mr Bligh sought a cash target of £2,000 to help Mr Barton's family with funeral costs, and anything in excess to help his young daughter Bonnie "as she grows up without a father," he said.
In the three days or so Tommy's family fund has been running, the total now stands at £9,910 and counting.
There were donations ranging from £5 to £1,000, from more than 250 supporters.
