Crews have been tackling a house fire since 2am at Brighstone.

Firefighters remain in Gaggerhill Lane today damping down the blaze.

Statement at 4.30am

We were alerted to a fire at a property in Gaggerhill Lane, Brighstone shortly before 2am on Tuesday 7 May 2024.

Crews from Newport, Freshwater, Yarmouth, Cowes and Shanklin are currently on scene, along with specialist vehicles and an aerial ladder platform. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using main jets to tackle the blaze. Efforts are also being made to prevent damage to neighbouring properties, and residents have been evacuated as a precaution.

Local residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area.​

Statement at 8.05am

The incident has been scaled back, with two fire engines and one aerial ladder platform damping down hotspots to prevent further spread of fire. Crews worked overnight to ensure the fire did not spread to neighbouring properties.
