Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service tackled a kitchen fire in Ryde this afternoon (Tuesday, May 7).

Firefighters were alerted to reports of a fire at an address on West Street at around 4pm.

Crews from Newport and Ryde quickly arrived at the scene to find a blaze in the kitchen of the property.

It is understood the fire started after oil was left in a hot pan.

Firefighters entered the building using breathing apparatus to put out the blaze and later used ventilation fans to clear the smoke.

Emergency teams stood down at 5pm and returned to their stations.
