A SAILOR was knocked unconscious after being hit by the boom, it is understood.
The man, believed to be from Cowes, was sailing in the Daring Audax in Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week.
A Cowes RNLI spokesman said the casualty had regained consciousness by the time rescue crews arrived on the scene, 300 yards off Osborne Bay.
It is believed he had been twice hit by the boom and is being brought to shore at Trinity Landing.
