NORTHWOOD secured victory over Ryde last week in a tense final of the ECB under-15s National Club Championships.

After winning the toss, Northwood started positively through openers, Ben Duggan and Josh Procter, and had 33 on the board after five overs. After Procter was dismissed for 23, Harry Collier came in and he and Duggan (46 not out) compiled a 51-run partnership.

Collier was then caught by Ronnie Cranfield for 26, who then caught out Niall Casson.

Ryde produced tight bowling towards the end, to restrict Northwood to 126-4.

In reply, Ryde began well but when Collier bowled Cranfield for a duck, the game started to swing Northwood’s way. Duggan then bowled Forbes for two to leave Ryde 18-2 off six.

However, Ben Baker and Calvin Dickinson started to build a partnership and both batted confidently, Baker reaching 32 and Dickinson having to retire on 50.

Collier took his second of the day before an excellent run out from Callum Witham ended any hopes of a Ryde win as they finished on 107-6.

Duggan and Dickinson won the man of the match prizes for Northwood and Ryde respectively, and Northwood will play the winners from Hampshire on Sunday, weather permitting.

The IW Cricket Board thanked Ventnor for use of their ground, Jim Weller and Roy Cooper for umpiring and Ashley Goldsmith and Stephen Baker for scoring on the night.
