Dussek Piano Trio preview West Wight Arts

MUSIC The final performance of this season’s West Wight Arts Association concert is next Saturday, April 14, and features the Dussek Piano Trio.
Comprising Uruguayan-born violinist Gonzalo Acosta, Australian cellist Margaret Powell and pianist Michael Dussek, the trio formed in 1988 and its notable broadcasts include the BBC Radio 3’s St John’s Smith Square series.
The IW programme will open with Beethoven’s Trio in C minor, full of contrasts and a virtuoso piano part.
It is followed by Brahms’ Trio in C major, with an allegro that has been described as “a heady swirl of motion and colour”.
The second half features Smetana’s plaintive and lyrical Trio in G minor, written by the grieving Czech composer in this sombre key following the death of his daughter.
Tickets are from The Memorial Hall, Freshwater, on 752956 or at administrator@freshwatermemorialhall.org.uk. The concert will begin at 7.30pm.
