LETTERS From Terry Nolan, Gurnard:The first Strategic Housing Land Availability Authority site (SHLAA) in Gurnard has had plans presented for approval now the planning rules have recently changed. Those who attended the parish council-called public meeting in the community hall last year to discuss the SHLAA sites (Tuttons Hill, Baring Road, Jordan valley etc.) in Gurnard may recall several people felt nothing could or would happen for a couple of years at least and we were overreacting. They seemed to believe the seven sites were only proposed sites and we had plenty of time. Well, according to the notes of this SHLAA site, the 33-house planning application, stage one is ready to go once the plans are approved. I, like many others, believe Gurnard is likely to get more large planning applications in the next few months/years now the UDP ceases to fully protect our countryside and that is why a Neighbourhood Plan is essential. The Gurnard Neighbourhood Plan (GNP) steering group consisting of four parish councillors and six residents, of whom I am one, and we would like as many villagers as possible to attend our meeting on Thursday at the village hall. This meeting is to provide villagers with information as to why Gurnard needs a Neighbourhood Plan in place as soon as possible to control and manage the development of Gurnard in the way the locals think is best for the village. The new Localism Act allows much more local input on planning etc. and the views of residents on many issues affecting Gurnard are the key requirements for this Neighbourhood Plan. A survey will soon be delivered by us to every home in Gurnard parish to establish, among other things, what the future housing requirements for the village residents will be over the next ten years and if a need exists, the plan will identify the most suitable locations. The GNP meeting is only one day before the final comments date for the 33-home plan (next Friday, May 18) so I will ask our parish council and ward councillor Paul Fuller if it’s possible to request an extension to the final comments date by a week or so, to enable comments from the public meeting to be taken into account. Time extension requests have been looked at favourably before by the council when major applications are being considered by the planning department as comments from residents are considered important in determining applications.The Gurnard Parish Neighbourhood Plan public meeting is on Thursday at 8.30pm at the Community Hall (old WI Hall).
