COWES Sports maintained their charge for the Sydenhams Wessex League Division 1 title, and promotion, with a 2-0 win over US Portsmouth on Saturday.
A double strike from top-scorer and captain Gareth Bricknell sealed all three points. However, rivals East Cowes Vics suffered more misery as they lost 5-2 at Tadley Calleva, Tom Scovell and Wayne Newnham on the scoresheet.
In Division 1, Newport's unbeaten run was extended with a 1-1 draw at Lymington Town. The Islanders took the lead on the hour mark through Aleks Przespolewski but the hosts equalised just five minutes later to steal a point.
