A GOAL from John McKie early in the second half earned Newport all three points against Hamworthy Utd in the Premier Division of the Sydenhams Wessex League on Saturday.

The win puts Newport up to sixth in the table, and they are still the team with the fewest defeats so far.

In Division 1, there was not a lot to celebrate at Beatrice Avenue as Steve Taylor took charge for his first game at East Cowes Vics.

The hosts were outgunned by Brockenhurst, particularly in the first half when the mainland side opened up a 2-0 lead thanks to some glaring defensive errors.

Despite a much-improved second half, where Vics his the post twice, they were unable to pull back the deficit and it remained 2-0.

Cowes Sports's trip to Andover New Street was called off, as Andover's pitch was frozen.
