FOOTBALL NEWPORT and Cowes Sports enjoyed great midweek victories in the Sydenhams Wessex League, to keep their title challenges well on track.
Newport travelled to AFC Portchester and won 3-1, thanks to goals from Tom McInnes, John McKie and Aleks Przespolewski. The win sees them move up to fifth in the Premier Division, with five games in hand over their nearest rivals and only 11 points behind the leaders Downton, who suffered a shock 3-1 defeat at home to lowly Romsey Town.
Cowes Sports hosted Tadley Calleva and came from behind to score twice in injury time and win 2-1, goals courtesy of Lee Davies and Gareth Bricknell.
This win, coupled with Brockenhurst’s 4-1 win over Team Solent, put Cowes back at the top of Division 1.
