Andover III 0, IW 11
IW ENSURED they would remain top of Hampshire 5 over the Christmas break regardless of tomorrow’s (Saturday) game against Aldershot, with a thumping win at rivals Andover.
Once again, IW started quickly and took the lead only a few minutes in through the in-form Simon Butler and quickly extended their lead through James Liddiard and Colin Simmonds.
Only a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping kept the score down, but Jonny Kirby struck to seal the game before the break.
In the second half, the onslaught continued, with further scores for Butler and Simmonds, before a defender inadvertently diverted the ball past his own goalkeeper soon after from a cross from Jonty Leggett.
Almost immediately, Tom Gould latched onto a ball that was somehow kept in play by Liddiard and rolled the ball into an empty net, before Stuart Allen rifled in a penalty corner.
The goals continued to be shared around the team as Ollie Stubbings struck, while Leggett then smashed home one of the goals of the game from the top of the area to round off the scoring.
The win gives IW a five-point lead at the top and healthy goal difference of plus 57, which is 27 more than their rivals.
