Under-14s : Junior Raiders 4, Lee Valley 5

A LATE surge by the Junior Raiders was not enough to salvage a point against a strong, but depleted Lee Valley side on Sunday.

The Londoners turned up with barely two lines’ worth of players but looked in control for the first two periods before Raiders made their comeback.

Raiders held their own for eight minutes before Lee Valley opened the scoring and it took until the fourth minute of the second period for them to double their advantage. They made it 3-0 on the powerplay but this was quickly cancelled when Raiders produced a brilliant shorthanded effort through Blayne Pugh.

Early in the third, Lee Valley made it 4-1 when a shot unluckily bounced off a Raiders’ player and into the net, undoing some great work by goalkeeper Daniel Murray.

However, Raiders made amends when Pugh, and then Dan Shier, scored in quick succession to make it 4-3.

With three minutes left, while on the powerplay, Lee Valley made it 5-3 but back came the Raiders, Pugh sealing his hat-trick to make for an exciting finish.

Although Raiders were unable to grab the vital equaliser they did themselves proud in their final game of 2012.

Man of the match was defenceman Mitchell Brown, while Curtis Thompson was spirit of the game.
