Ice hockey stars turn on the style

ICE HOCKEYWightlink Raiders 9, Streatham Redskins 1
RAIDERS went on the offensive against Streatham at Ryde Arena on Saturday, peppering the Redskins’ goal and winning comfortably.

The Island side registered more than 80 shots on Streatham goaltender Will Sanderson, who did well to only let in nine by the end and duly earned his man of the match prize.
Raiders’ captain Danny Hughes led by example as he got his side an early lead, before import John Sarno scored a peach.
The American later turned provider, assisting three other Raiders’ goals in an assured performance.
Andrew Robinson scored his third of the season — bringing his season’s points tally to nine so far — before James Udell made it 4-0.
Man of the match Alex Murray  scored twice before Island-trained Steve Gosset, player-coach Jeremy Cornish and Luke Reynolds all joined in the scoring fun.
Gaining assists along the way were Dan Scott and Stewart Tait.
Streatham scored their only goal of the game in the second period.
The result was even more impressive given the Raiders lost another member of their team last week.
Young forward David Webb has left the club after being offered an opportunity to play roller hockey in Spain.
Geoff Underwood, of the management team, said: "Matt Colclough was in goal and did a good job against the few shots he faced. Sarno worked hard and set up goals, Damon Larter demonstrated his all-round ability yet again and Alex Murray continued to play well as an attacker, both scoring and assisting."
Geoff said the team has been told they must stop taking silly penalties, as the top teams will take advantage, and paid tribute to the excellent support from Streatham fans.
The team now has a four-week break away from Ryde Arena, with their next home match against Peterborough on December 19, however they are back in action this Sunday, travelling away to Cardiff ENL Devils.
The club is trying to arrange a mid-week game between now and December 19, so check the County Press for news.
