Trophy triumph for Raiders

ICE HOCKEY WIGHTLINK Raiders defied the odds to defeat Chelmsford Chieftains last weekend and claim the South East Trophy.

Raiders, who have not had the best form at Chelmsford’s home rink this season, drew 2-2 in Essex last night (Sunday), meaning they won the trophy on aggregate, 7-5.

On Saturday night, in the first leg of the final, Raiders came from 2-0 down to win 5-3, goals coming courtesy of Richard Facey, two, Jiri Hanzal, Kieran Annis and Alex Murray.

Taking a two-goal lead into the second leg, Raiders knew they would have to perform at their best. The last time they travelled to Chelmsford in the league, they lost 11-1.

However, the side kept their cool and five minutes in took the lead through Facey. The score remained that way until five minutes into the final period when Chelmsford equalised, and although a later goal from Damon Larter was again cancelled by the Chieftains, it was too late, as Raiders held on for victory.
