LETTERSFrom Simon Wratten, Fishbourne:
WITH a general election fast approaching, I find myself in the position of probably not voting for the first time ever and I don’t believe I’m alone.
The election is predicted to have a very low turnout due to apathy but I am certainly not apathetic, just disillusioned with the choices available. Mark Chiverton will once again be standing for the Labour party and although I have never met him, if he thinks I will be voting for a party that has lied, deceived and ruined the country, then he is seriously deluded.
Jill Wareham has been chosen to represent the Lib Dems this time around, after the party shot itself in the foot in 2005 by having an unknown mainlander called Anthony Rowland (remember him? no, me neither) represent them last time.
Again, I have never met Jill Wareham but she was part of the disastrous Lib Dem council that was washed away in 2005 and she couldn’t even hold her seat in Brighstone, mustering just 687 votes, so if Jill thinks she or her party have any chance what so ever of regaining power, she, too, is deluded.
So the only choice left is Andrew Turner, who I have met a number of times and he is a genuinely nice man, I just don’t like the party he represents!
Look what has happened with the local Conservative council, they’ve run out of money and are now cutting back on necessities like care. If Andrew Turner was an independent MP, I am sure he would intervene or at least voice his concern about the inept running of the council but because he is a Conservative, he is unable to go against his own party and this is damaging him.
I would love to see Andrew stand as an independent but this isn’t going to happen so could we please have a good, strong, independent candidate throw their hat in to the ring to give me somewhere to put my X? Anybody else feel the same?
