ELTHAM Society has awarded one of its Brighter Eltham awards to Penny Royal handicrafts in Well Hall Road. It is only the second time the occasional award, presented for anything which contributes to making the town brighter, has been made. The society said the citation highlights the cheerful and colourful ambience of the shop, supported by the bright and helpful staff who are always courteous and knowledgeable in providing individual attention and sound advice.
Accepting the award, Penny Royal's owner Ken Wilson said the shop's motto was `a day without laughing is a day wasted' and this philosophy rubbed off on their customers. "We are really pleased to receive this. It's lovely to be recognised". The presentation was made at the society's monthly lecture meeting at the Christ Church centre, Eltham High Street. The first recipient of the award, made last year, was the small flower stall in The Patio shopping precinct in Passey Place.
