Old Merchant Taylor's 31 Old Millhillians 15

Millhillians finished their season with a friendly against their oldest and closest rivals and, as usual, it was festive rather than rugby for the purist; entertaining but frenetic.

This might not have suited OMT who have a mountain to climb when they play Staines in the Middlesex Cup final this Saturday. Then again, maybe it was as well to relax before such a major challenge.

Despite the final scoreline, Millhillians had far the better of the game for the first hour and really only lost their way in the final quarter when their weakened pack were muscled out of contention.

OMTs opened the scoring against the run of play with a converted try after 20 minutes. Nick Propper kicked a penalty for OMs to stay in touch before a cracking try from Russ Goldberg gave the visitors a one point lead.

A soft try, converted, for OMTs gave them a 14-8 lead at the break.

It was nip and tuck into the second half with OMs edging into the lead with a David Kelly try and Propper conversion, but OMTs turned the screw and were rewarded with another converted try after sustained pressure.

At that point OMs lost momentum and let in another try and penalty to give a lopsided look to the final score.
