LETTERS From Daryll Pitcher, Wootton:
THE combination of Conservative intransigence and Liberal Democrat petulance has left the IW in a very bad situation.
If indeed the Liberal Democrats do carry out their threat to vote down boundary reforms, then we will be left either with the current situation, whereby a vote on the Island is worth less than any other in the country, or we will yet again end up fighting to stop part of the Island constituency being hived off and joined with Hampshire.
Both sides are wrong. Lords reform, while important, is not urgent. Meanwhile, tit for tat voting down of legislation looks like schoolyard-style politics.
There are many things the coalition should be getting on with, sorting out the stagnant economy for one. However, I doubt that a common sense proposal like getting out of Europe and saving £50 million a day would even occur to two ferrets fighting in a bag.
The people of the IW deserve better than the Conservative/Lib Dem coalition. Please can we have a government that puts us, the people, first?
