LETTERSFrom Vivienne Rayner, Liss, Hants:
SOMEONE hath blundered!
It was dreadful to read Shanklin is no longer part of the Met Office list and, as a result, Eastbourne was the official sunshine winner for 2011.
Shanklin Hotel and Guest House Association employed me as its public relations officer in the early 1980s. I worked hard to get the message across about our lovely Island and its glorious weather.
On one occasion, the media was, as usual, bemoaning the rain covering the whole country.
Naturally, the sky on the Island was clear blue, with the sun burning down. So I phoned the radio station in question, asking if the IW had been towed south to the equator while we were all asleep. It worked!
The weatherman had to admit the Island was often forgotten and did enjoy much better weather than the rest of the UK.
I look forward to a vigorous protest from the IW Council and the MP, creating lots of valuable headlines for you when they take the Met Office to task.
Even if you do not get back on the list, the publicity you could generate would be very useful.
Good luck and best wishes for an excellent season.
