Seeing red over pink tea rooms

LETTERSFrom Paul Gibson, Shanklin:

IT'S such a shame and somewhat small-mindedness for the owners of the Old Thatch Tea Rooms, Shanklin Old Village, to paint the building pink.

As residents and tourists are aware, the Old Village is perhaps one of the most picturesque and photographed sights in the country, with a charming group of thatched buildings and white-painted walls.

Now, the olde worlde charm of the village has been spoilt by such silliness.

Surely this is a listed building and there must be some form of local by-law or County Hall regulation which prevents such mistreatment.

If the owners have done this as a publicity stunt, well I’m afraid it may well backfire on them.

No one I have spoken to will be giving them any business in the future.
