Cellist entertains

The Sinfonietta concert at All Saints’ Church, Ryde, with Lionel Handy on cello, centre. Picture by Peter Boam.

MUSIC A SYMPHONY orchestra entertained IW music lovers at a concert in Ryde.

Conducted by Richard Studt, the Sinfonietta returned to the Island for the fourth time this year to perform at All Saints’ Church.

Mainland-based cello soloist, Lionel Handy, returned to the stage after not being expected to survive a sleepwalking accident in 2007.

He broke his neck and back after suffering a major fall while on tour in Germany but, against all odds, he made a miraculous recovery.

The evening included Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony, Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A minor, Dvorak’s Romance for violin and orchestra and Haydn’s Symphony No 104, The London.

Around 350 people attended.
