After recent team problems Directors got back to their winning ways with a 5-1 thrashing of St Albans team Skytop on Sunday.

Skytop started the brightest, calling on Directors keeper John Sandford to pull off two point-blank stops in the first ten minutes.

Directors weathered the storm with strong defending from skipper Dave Hobbs, right back Alan Butterfield, and centre back Scott Lacey, who won most of the aerial duels. Left back Steve Weston forced his way down the left wing and linked up with striker Scott Green, who opened the scoring when he headed in from close range.

The goal gave Directors the confidence to push forward, with the Michael Moulesdale and Stuart Poetiker controlling the midfield.

Poetiker scored the second goal when he latched onto a pass from right midfielder Matt Gates.

Gates scored the third goal from the penalty spot when his shot on goal was handled off the line.

After the break Skytop pushed forward, but failed to score.

Man-of-the-match Stuart Poetiker bagged Directors' fourth goal when Skytop failed to clear a ball beyond their penalty area.

The best goal of the game came from forward Scott Langridge, whose fierce drive found the top corner made it five.

To Skytop's great credit, they kept throwing men forward, and were rewarded with a late goal, but it was too late to stop Directors going into the Knockout Cup Final at Clarence Park on May 5.
