AN INCREDIBLE three days of top-quality music is in store for jazz fans in Newport as the town’s first ever jazz weekend begins today (Friday).

Newport Jazz Weekend, supported by the County Press, Arts Council England and Wightlink, promises to be a major new event in the UK jazz calendar, featuring a world-class array of supremely talented musicians and singers.

It has come about due to the success of regular concerts hosted by the Newport Jazz Club at the Apollo Theatre, Newport, and comprises 12 main events at five venues in the town.

The weekend kicks off this evening (Friday) with performances by top trumpeter Digby Fairweather at Quay Arts and sax supremo Simon Allen at Newport Minster.

Other big names include Edana Minghella, who will be singing at the Minster on Sunday, with a closing concert at the Riverside Centre featuring one of the world’s leading guitarists, Martin Taylor.
