MUSICST George’s Day celebrations kicked off early in Newport, with an impressive performance by the Royal British Legion Central Band.
The group performed a variety of popular music from days gone by, which had the audience singing along at Medina Theatre.
Chairman of the IW branch of the RBL, Reg Hunt, said: "The event was fantastic and everyone really enjoyed themselves. There were solo performances on the saxophone and flute, along with a trumpet solo.
"The band played some hits from West Side Story and the Swinging Shepherd Blues. In the second half, they performed Olympic Spirit, a Shirley Bassey showcase and finished with some classics from the Andrew Lloyd Webber collection.
"The central band has played at Cowes Yacht Haven in recent years but the band master said to me how impressed they were with the theatre and would love to come back again next year.
"We also had around 34 of our members at the event, who had a great time."
Money raised from the event will be split between the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and Island Rotary.
