POLICE have appealed for witnesses following an alleged assault on the Isle of Wight.

The appeal followed reports of a dispute between a man and a woman outside The Gouldings respite centre, in St Andrews Way, Freshwater, between 3pm and 3.20pm on Tuesday, April 17.

It is alleged an assault took place in a 4x4 vehicle and the vehicle, a dark blue Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max Plus, was then driven around the area.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault following the incident and bailed until May 11, pending further enquiries.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw the dispute, or the vehicle, to contact them by calling 101. Information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Officers said they were keen to hear from a woman seen walking her dog in the area at the time, who they believe witnessed the assault.
