Who are the people in your neighbourhood?

How many of us know our neighbours or still feel part of a community?

The answer is very few. Gone are the days when you would leave your door open or the children in the street played together. But one Edgware man is hoping to bring some community spirit back.

Wesley Lipman of Mount Grove, Edgware, has decided it is time people in his road got to know each other and so, on May 28, there will be a giant community picnic for residents in Mount Grove, Riverdene and Langley Crescent.

The culinary event will take place on the green where the three roads converge. There will be games for the children, lots of food and live music. Guests of honour include Hendon MP Andrew Dismore and Sergeant Grahame ? the area's community police officer.

The message of the day is to provide something for the community by the community. 'It is a day that aims to generate the possibility of further enrichment and community in our neighbouring lives,' said Mr Lipman.

Notes of times for the event will be posted through residents' doors closer to the day.
