Bestival: Monday traffic and travel info

AFTER four days of music and fun at Bestival, tens of thousands of people are expected to leave the Isle of Wight today and head home.

Bestival organisers have worked with the Isle of Wight Council, police and travel companies to try to minimise the impact on ordinary Island traffic.

We will be updating this page with the latest traffic and travel information throughout the day. The latest updates will appear at the top.

There is some congestion around Wightlink's Fishbourne ferry terminal according to the Isle of Wight Council. Residents are advised to avoid the Wootton/Fishbourne area and use the Downs Road which has re-opened.
Despite congestion around ferry terminals the roads are flowing clearly.

Wightlink has said its Yarmouth service is running 25 minutes late.

The Isle of Wight Council has re-opened the Downs Road to all traffic.

Traffic through Wootton/Fishbourne is currently slow but is moving according to the Isle of Wight Council.

Southern Vectis route 9 buses running with delays of up to 15 minutes due to heavy Bestival traffic.

Wightlink is reporting that its Fishbourne terminal is getting busy, but services are running on time. Passengers are advised to arrive 30 minutes before their booked sailing time.
There are no queues or delays for Wightlink's FastCat service from Ryde to Portsmouth or for foot passengers on its Yarmouth to Lymington car ferry.

There are currently no traffic delays and traffic appears to be moving freely on all Bestival routes, according to the Isle of Wight Council.

Red Funnel is reporting waiting times of two to four hours for foot passengers on the East Cowes to Southampton car ferry and one to two hours for the Red Jet passenger service from West Cowes to Southampton.

Wightlink is reporting that all its ports are flowing freely and there are no queues.

Congestion in the Wootton area has eased and traffic has returned to normal according to the Isle of Wight Council.

Waiting times for Red Funnel car ferry foot passengers are one to two hours. The service is running to timetable.

Heavy traffic in the Wottton/Fishbourne area has caused some school buses to be delayed according to the Isle of Wight Council.

Traffic in Wootton through to Fishbourne is heavy, mainly due to commuter traffic and also people using the pedestrian crossings, according to the Isle of Wight Council. A police officer is en route to manually control the traffic flow at The Cedars pub to easy the delays.

Southern Vectis have reported heavy traffic levels in the Cowes area, route 1 services may experience delays.

The lights at the Hare and Hounds junction have been turned off all morning to assist with traffic flow.
Camper vans exiting the Bestival site at Havenstreet are leaving some mud on the highway. Please take care if driving through this area.
A council sweeper van is on its way to clean the road surface reported the Isle of Wight Council.

Traffic heading through Wootton towards Fishbourne is heavy but is moving according to the Isle of Wight Council.

Southern Vectis is reporting heavy traffic levels in the Fishbourne area which will affect routes 4 and 9, and in East Cowes which may cause delays to routes 4 and 25. The company is advising passengers to allow extra time for their journeys.

There are waiting times of around an hour for foot passengers travelling on Red Funnel's car ferry service from East Cowes to Southampton.

Hovertravel services are running to time according to the company's website but the service is fully booked for today (Monday).

According to the Isle of Wight Council traffic is getting heavy in Wootton High Street and Fishbourne areas, mainly due to commuter traffic. People are advised to avoid the areas if possible.

According to the Isle of Wight Council all roads are running smoothly this morning. There is some additional traffic on the roads due to cars leaving the Bestival site.

Red Funnel has warned delays are likely from West Cowes Red Jet due to high volumes of passengers. 

The company said foot passenger season ticket holders would be given priority boarding. Passengers with vehicle ferry season tickets and books of tickets will be given priority boarding, but will need to pay upgrade to travel on Red Jet services.

If travelling from East Cowes on Mon 10th September please don't arrive more than 60 mins before your booked sailing time. All foot passengers will be boarded on a first come first served basis.

Southern Vectis has said its Route 1 service will not be stopping at Cowes Red Jet pontoon until 6pm.

Wightlink has asked vehicle passengers travelling on Fishbourne or Yarmouth sailings NOT to arrive more than 30 minutes before their booking. Foot passenger queues are expected in Ryde and Yarmouth and passengers have been asked to be patient and allow extra time.

The Isle of Wight Council has said that from around 9am until 6pm, Mersley Down Road will be closed from Downend Road to Rowlands Lane, and Downend Road will be closed in a northbound direction from Arreton Cross to Mersley Down Road. Diversions will be signposted.
