Bestival teams up with Rhythmtree

Isle of Wight-born folk singer-songwriter Martin Newnham has joined the Bestival Bill. Organisers of the event have teamed up with Isle of Wight world music festival Rhythmtree this year.

BESTIVAL has teamed up with Isle of Wight world music festival Rhythmtree for this year’s event.

Rhythmtree will bring a line-up of top folk and world artists to the Bestival in September to perform on the Bandstand on Saturday, September 7.

Organisers announced the news today (Wednesday), revealing that acts lined-up to play included AJ Holmes and the Hackney Empire, London Afrobeat Collective, Zee Guveya Heritage Band, Lokandes, Little Axe, Airtist, Modeste Hugues, By the Rivers, Muha, Tanz, Myles Sanko Goat Roper Rodeo Band, Cable Street Collective, Mamaconyuko, Electric Jalaba, Rabbit Foot, OVSC and Isle of Wight-born folk artist Martin Newnham.

Organisers also announced the return of Bestival favourites the WI tea tent, Tomorrow’s World, Rob da Bank’s Music Club and Wight Astronomy.

Bestival curator Rob da Bank said: "There's a lot of amazing music in this world and we only really ever hear a tiny amount of it, so I'm really pleased that the chaps from Rhythmtree have put together such a great line-up for our World Music Day.

"Taking over our solar powered Bandstand in the Tomorrow's World field all day on Saturday, you'll be able to sample the delights our planet has to offer, from Malaysian mayhem to Ghanaian soul.  And don't forget to have a bit of tea and cake from the Women's Institute while you're there."

Rhythmtree organiser Gerry Priddle said: "Curating the Bandstand stage in 2013 is a tremendous opportunity for me to put typical 'Rhythmtree' bands in front of the glorious Bestival crowd.

"Bands that so often stay below the radar in the general UK music scene, but in fact represent what many are now calling the exciting New Wave of World Music.

"An extraordinarily rich mix of world-influenced sounds which, of course, the Rhythmtree Festival has a great reputation for bringing to the Island every year in July."

A new 20 week plan has been launched and details can be found on the Bestival website www.bestival.net
