Talking books for teenagers are now on offer at Teddington library.

The new scheme is on trial for a year and Paul Donaghy library manager said: "This is the first time Richmond Upon Thames have offered this service to teenagers and we hope they will find it useful to explore new literature or enjoy old favourites". The hire charge for a talking book is 80p per fortnight and more details are available from Teddington Library

Cash well spent

The Royal Star & Garter Home for disabled ex-service men and women last week received a cheque for £8,000 from the Royal British Legion, Ashford Kent branch. The money is being put towards the purchase of four posture beds, dining tables, and three television/videos

Watering holes

Riverside pubs in Richmond have joined forces with the council in a bid to help preserve the water front.The scheme will include sponsoring street cleaners, rubbish collection and paying towards the running of public toilets. The initiative will also see the pubs working closely with the police to crackdown on underage drinking.

Gem of a sale

This weekend there will be a sale of antiques at down to earth prices at Richmond Adult College. Among the items on sale are antique china, glass, silver and jewellery. The sale takes place on Sunday between 10am and 5pm in the Queen Charlotte Hall.

Valuable day

Auctioneers Warwick and Warwick will be visiting the Richmond Hill Hotel next Tuesday from 10am. They will be providing free valuations of stamps, envelopes, postcards and coins.
