SHOULD Watford want to, and be able to, afford, to sign Wayne Brown when his loan period expires, they will find Ipswich Town less than enthusiastic.

Town's precarious position in the Premiership has prompted a rethink, with manager George Burley quoted as saying: "Wayne is not being sold anywhere. There are nine games to go this season and we may want him here. He is a member of our squad, and we know he can do well for us if we need him. I have a 24-hour recall clause in the deal with Watford, and, if necessary, we will get him back."

The general reading of the situation is that if Ipswich are relegated, they may see Brown as an essential member of the squad in Division One.

They need to gain as many points as possible in the next few games for their final trio of fixtures sees them take on Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

"I hope and I think they will be safe before that," said Luca Vialli, who has been impressed with Brown's performances.
