BURGLARS may have struck at the home of the grandfather of Kiri-Jade Hodgkinson, stealing cash and jewellery, on the day of her funeral, Isle of Wight police believe.
Kiri-Jade was killed in a crash on Mersley Down Road on January 2 and her funeral took place last Friday.
Det Con Katy Lee said: "The occupant of the property, a 60-year-old man, is the grandfather of 14-year-old Kiri-Jade Hodgkinson who died very recently in a road traffic collision on the Isle of Wight.
"It is believed that this burglary may have happened on the day of Kiri's funeral, as people had access to the address to use facilities and offer condolences.
"The cash tin in particular is fairly distinctive and would have been quite heavy. If anyone is aware of someone recently coming into possession of items matching this description please contact us."
Police have appealed for witnesses after items including a brown metal cash tin with 'Dad’ printed on it containing £300 to £500 in pound coins, a heavy gold 10in bracelet in a green presentation box, a gold sovereign ring and a plain gold wedding band were taken.
The burglary, at an address in Victoria Road, Sandown, happened sometime between Tuesday, January 21 and Sunday, January 26, police said.
