A SAILING dinghy with a young man on board was towed to safety by the Cowes RNLI lifeboat yesterday (Wednesday) evening.

The dinghy was virtually becalmed in light winds near Bourne Gap Buoy between Calshot and Beaulieu River and had been in danger of drifting into The Solent’s main shipping lane.

The lifeboat, helmed by Steve Price, was quickly on the scene. After speaking to the yachtsman, the crew arranged for his boat to be towed back to Gurnard Sailing Club by the club’s safety boat.
