Double alert for lifeboat

THE crew of Bembridge Lifeboat was kept busy with back-to-back call outs on Saturday night.

The lifeboat was launched at 10.10pm following reports a personal location beacon had been spotted in the vicinity of the New Grounds lighted buoy, about three miles east of Forelands.

The beacon, which had appeared to have fallen off a ship or buoy, was recovered after a short search.

During the crew’s return to Bembridge, they were diverted to help a small fishing boat, which had not displayed navigation lights, just over a mile away from the lifeboat station.

Coastguards were concerned for the anglers’ safety after a boat reported almost colliding with it.

Lifeboat crew offered the fishermen safety advice before returning to base.
