Pound it out for pounds

Two young people from Richmond are raising money for disabled children by running in this year's London Marathon.

Simon Lamb from Adelaide Road, Teddington, and Lara Wood from Ellerman Avenue, Twickenham are currently pounding pavements to get in shape for the big race.

Both will raise money for Get Kids Going which gives children with disabilities the chance to take part in sports.

Sculpture joy

The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew is to unveil a work by the eminent British sculptor Sir Eduardo Paolozzi this April. The abstracted human figure, called From the Greatest to the Least, will be situated near the Princess of Wales Conservatory. Minister for the Arts, Mark Fisher MP is due to unveil the sculpture on April 2.

What a picture

Judges of Richmond's open photographic competition were disappointed at the lack of entries in the under 16s category. They admitted their disappointment as a special presentation ceremony was held at Parkshot, Richmond where 26 entrants were given prizes for their work. Richard Baker of Kew came first in the adult category while Henrietta Aitken of East Sheen won the under 16 category.

Tough task

A man from Richmond is to be the only deaf crew member on the next BT Global Challenge in the year 2000.

Stuart Crammond from Lichfield Gardens will be taking on the toughest yacht race in the world and is busy trying to raise £25,000 for his berth.

The race will sail around the world to mark the new millennium.
