Early finish signalled for road works

A ONE-way system that has caused disruption for many Isle of Wight drivers is expected to be removed two days earlier than originally planned.

The restrictions in Newport — at Fairlee Road, Staplers Road, Halberry Lane and Cross Lane — for major gas main and service replacement work by Southern Gas Networks, are expected to be removed after 8pm on Tuesday, March 26. They were due to end on Thursday, March 28.

There is a possibility, depending on the works, the one way system will be removed on Monday evening, after 8pm, the Isle of Wight Council said on it Facebook page.

When the one way restrictions have been lifted, temporary traffic lights will be in place on Staplers Road, outside Broadlands House, until the afternoon of Thursday, March 28.

Another set of temporary traffic lights will be on Staplers Road between School Lane and Mayfield Drive the following week, from April 2 to May 3.
