THE ISLE of Wight could be in line for a £10,000 grant for a community project thanks to Ecoisland the national Team Green Britain project created by EDF Energy.

David Green, chief executive of the Isle of Wight Ecoisland Community Interest Company, has been nominated as Team Green Britain SuperHero.

That has put the Isle of Wight in line for a possible £10,000 grant for a community project chosen by Ecoisland, but only if enough people back Mr Green.

Voting on the Team Green Britain website opened yesterday (Monday) and a winner is due to be announced in October.

An Ecoisland spokeswoman said: "David Green has been chosen to represent our community as the founder and CEO of the Ecoisland Partnership CIC, an initiative to make the Isle of Wight the first completely sustainable region in the UK.

"Ecoisland’s vision is to make the Isle of Wight sustainable in terms of energy, water, fuel, waste and transport, creating a sustainable future that will reduce residents’ living costs and improve quality of living."
