AN ELDERLY man was targeted by conmen, leading to an investigation by Isle of Wight police.

A spokeswoman said the 75 year old was approached by two men at his home address in Whitmore Court, close to Green Road, Freshwater on Friday, December 20 at 12.10pm.

The victim was offered over-priced items for sale, police said.

The first suspect was described as a white man in his 30s and 5ft 10ins tall. He was slim build and wearing a coat with the hood up.

The second suspect was described as a white man in his 30s, 6ft tall, medium build and wearing navy blue top and jeans.

Investigating Officer, DC Gillian Harvey of Newport CID, said: "This is a despicable crime against a vulnerable person. Maybe you live in the area and were approached too?

"I would appeal to anyone who may have seen these two men in the area during that time, or have information about this crime to contact me on 101 quoting ref 44130476808.

"We are reminding local residents to ensure their properties are left secure at all times, and to remember that you have the right to refuse entry to any uninvited visitors. Always ask for identification, and if you are still unsure you can call the police."
