Faith school travel scrapped

A CONTROVERSIAL decision to scrap universal entitlement to free faith school travel has been signed off by the Isle of Wight Council.

The authority’s new school transport policy, set to save the council around £212,000 a year, will come into effect this month.

As reported previously by the County Press, the plans sparked a great deal on concern among faith school parents when they were first published last year, but the council argued religious and non-religious families should be treated the same.

only go to church for weddings and funerals mr elliott, not really my bag. but dont really understand why you are so offended by other people's beliefs. suppose we should all thank god your an atheist

Christianity and other religions are for people who do not want to, or can't think for themselves.
Religion has no place in our schools.
Religion has no place in government.

@Augustus Miller, I take it they skipped grammar and punctuation at your school, in favour of prayer.

oh dear, this story seems to have struck a chord. seems clear that mr double barrelled jay didnt go to a school anywhere near as good as christ the king for his education, otherwise his spelling would be considerably better

You make a choice to send you child to certain schools...in this case based upon a rediculous religious ideal...so you should pay for the 'priveledge' of getting them.

Any sensible and civilsed society would ban 'faith' schools completely

Meanwhile, those who know the difference between fact and fiction have been paying through the nose to get our kids to school.

Makes me wonder what other ridiculous schemes our council tax is paying for.

Faith schools are mostly run in the same way as other state schools. However, their faith status may be reflected in their religious education curriculum, admissions criteria and staffing policies. How many C of E and Catholic schools does the Island have, as I hope these are included in this decision.!

Excellent news and only a shame free travel was given in the first place. Let their 'God' provide.
