Firefighters called to crash

UPDATED TUESDAY 17:02*

A COACH and a car have collided in Freshwater.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident on Colwell Road at 1.04pm today (Monday).

Three appliances have been sent to the scene.

It is thought five people were in the car, a Kia C'eed.

The accident occured near to the Colwell Bay Inn and the road was blocked according to an Isle of Wight police spokesman at 1pm. The spokesman said three people were believed to be trapped.

Southern Vectis said shortly after 1.30pm that it had diverted its Number 7 service and the Needles tour via the Avenue due to police closing Colwell Road, following the accident.

A spokeswoman for St Mary's Hospital said three ambulances and two paramedic cars were sent to the scene and three or four patients, all conscious, were taken to accident and emergency.

The road reopened at around 5pm.

*Two women were treated and discharged yesterday and another woman was expected to be discharged today (Tuesday). All have suffered minor injuries according to a St Mary's Hospital spokeswoman.
