Good news for Sophie

Sophie Rolf.

FIVE-year old Sophie Rolf and her family have received some good news, as the team of cyclists fund-raising for the Sophie Rolf Fund, are riding back from Paris.

Sophie, from Hurst Point View, Totland, is fighting an inoperable brain tumour and found out today it has responded to the gruelling treatment and has reduced in size by about 38 per cent.

Aaron Rolf, Sophie’s father, said: "Sophie had a reassessment scan quite early, they normally wait 12 weeks, but she had it three weeks after the treatment.

"The doctor said there would be one of three results, it would have got better, got worse, or stayed the same. Fortunately, it had got better."

He added: "It’s still inoperable but it has shrunk. We have a massive sense of relief."

Sophie has recently come back from a trip to Disneyland Paris, arranged for her and her family by the Starlight charity, which organises trips for sick children.

Along with her brother, Jack, and parents, Aaron and Gemma, Sophie has also been invited to a party at Hamley’s toy shop in London, organised by the charity Believe in Magic.

The charity was set up by a 16 year-old girl called Meg, after her own childhood experiences in hospital, and provides once-in-a-lifetime experiences for seriously and terminally ill children.

The fundraising team of Islanders cycling back from Paris are expected to cross the finishing line at Sydenhams, Newport, at 10am on Saturday.
