Headteacher returns to run Island school

THE FORMER headteacher of Carisbrooke High School, Shaheen Khan-Jones, has been appointed as interim principal of Sandown Bay Academy for the next academic year.

A letter to parents confirming the appointment of Mrs Khan-Jones to the post was sent out by the school last Friday (July 6).

The move comes after Mrs Khan-Jones quit her job at Carisbrooke College, run by the Island Innovation Trust, in March after just one year in the post.

At the time, it was said she wished to return to the mainland in order to be closer to her family and to work in a city environment.

But just four months later she is due to return to the Isle of Wight to replace Sandown’s current principal, John Bradshaw, who is set to leave the school at the end of this term.

In a letter to parents, Mrs Khan-Jones said she had returned to London to work after quitting Carisbrooke but had been 'inspired’ by the aims and ideals of the Academies Enterprise Trust, which runs Sandown High School.

During her time at Carisbrooke Mrs Khan-Jones, formerly deputy head at an innercity school in Hackney, introduced a strict uniform code as one of her first moves, including a bar on girls wearing make-up and short skirts and youngsters using their mobile phones.

As the parent of a child attending Carisbrooke College I congratulate Mrs Khan Jones on securing her position in the "city" of Sandown

Buridans principle is too complicated for me James. Just remember the Bucks Fizz song 'Making your mind up'.
