A WORLD-CLASS children’s heart unit based at Southampton General Hospital has been spared the axe following a national review into heart services for youngsters.
The Joint Committee of the Primary Care Trusts of England announced late yesterday (Wednesday) the unit had been spared the axe following the review into streamlining paediatric cardiac surgery services.
Campaigners on the Isle of Wight had said if the under-threat unit at Southampton had been forced to shut, it would have meant youngsters from the Island would have been forced to travel to Bristol for treatment.
