Bosses at Shenley Park Trust are making a bid for lottery cash which would enable them to look into providing bigger arts facilities in the park.

They are patiently awaiting the outcome of an application to the Arts Lottery Board for money to carry out a feasibility study as to the type and range of facilities which could be introduced.

Park director John Ely said: "This will involve wide public consultation.

"Similarly we are seeking the views of the people of Shenley as to the future facilities we should and can afford to provide at the former Hospital Social Club site.

"Trustees are determined to take the park forward so that it realises its full potential and becomes a real asset for the local community."

The park's walled garden is now fully open but forthcoming productions in June of Shakespeare's As You Like It have been cancelled, said Shenley Park Trust director John Ely.

But an alternative performance has been booked -- the Common Players will now be performing a production of Podfather on June 26 and 27.
