FLOODING has resulted in delays for the Wightlink ferry in Yarmouth.

Heavy rain combined with a midday high tide meant the area around the Isle of Wight ferry port was under water and the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry unable to dock.

Wightlink marketing manager, Kerry Jackson, said: "If the boat docks, then it will create a wash which will only add to the flooding in the area.

"A flood alert was issued this morning warning that there may be some disruption on the Yarmouth to Lymington route.

"The tide is starting to go down now, so hopefully services will be back to normal very shortly. There have been no cancellations or suspensions."

The Isle of Wight Council said on Twitter it had suspended the Cowes chain ferry service due to the high tide.

*It was back in service at around 2pm.

We left Yarmouth on the 07.50 and it was quite obvious that there were problems. The number of people arriving on the island was huge & it was a wonder the ferry did not sink. They all had bicycles and nearly all had beards, as did a lot of the men. They came from all over the world, Fareham, Winchester, Brighton and the Isle of Dogs and even Scotland and were headed for Cowes where they were going to see their hero, John Hayes.
