Kingsbury Town 3

Hemel Hempstead 2

Bottom club Kingsbury Town shocked the Ryman League Division Three leaders Hemel Hempstead with an exciting 3-2 victory at Silver Jubilee Park in midweek.

Town, without a league victory since the beginning of the season, proved their revival win at Hornchurch in their previous game was no fluke when they thrilled manager John Mitchell and their loyal band of supporters matching the leaders move for move.

Centre forward Delroy Watson gave Town the lead, but the league's top club were soon back on terms. Nelto Cornwall restored Kingsbury's lead, but Hemel hit back again and the scores were were level at the break.

Paul Harrison scored the only goal of an evenly fought second half to give Town victory and the Silver Jubilee Park camp one of their rare opportunities for celebration this season.

It was a great boost too for Town's ever enthusiastic Chairman Alan Davies who had followed every match, but missed their first win of 1998 as he was holidaying abroad.

"A win was a great bonus the way things have been this season , but two on the trot and to beat the league leaders I think proved that we are turning the corner. It's probably too late to pull us off the bottom, but now we can consolidate and get a good side together for next term," he said.

John Mitchell has tried a lot of players. Some have worked, some haven't, but now we seem to have the basis of a side that can do things for us next season."
