AN INQUEST opened today (Monday) into the death of a man who was found dead at the foot of Culver Cliffs.

Robert Hayball, 20, of Nelson Road, Newport was reported missing in the early hours of last Thursday following a domestic dispute earlier that night.

Police were called at 2.52am by his partner who was concerned for his welfare after a report he had left home driving a van.

Police received information a short time later that a vehicle had gone over a cliff at Culver.

Mr Hayball's body was found near to the vehicle at 1.11pm on Friday by coastguards, who assisted police with its recovery.

At the inquest opening, coroner for the Isle of Wight, Caroline Sumeray, said a post-mortem confirmed Mr Hayball, who was born in Thailand, died of multiple injuries and trauma.

The inquest was adjourned to a date yet to be fixed and police investigations are continuing.
